Launching GRIP 2025: Advancing Roma Inclusion in the Green Transition

RESDI is proud to launch the second phase of its Green Roma Inclusion Program (GRIP 2025), supported by the European Climate Foundation (ECF). Building on the achievements of 2024, this year’s initiative continues our mission to ensure that Roma communities are active participants in shaping a just and inclusive green future.

From Planning to Implementation

The first phase of GRIP in 2024 focused on creating strategic foundations—developing participatory development plans, conducting energy audits, and designing new community-driven solutions. In close cooperation with municipalities such as Luník IX and Velký Krtíš, RESDI supported the creation of local roadmaps for sustainable development and energy efficiency.

In 2025, we are shifting from planning to action—implementing pilot models, launching institutional changes, and building the systems and structures needed for long-term impact.

Key Objectives of GRIP 2025

  • Launch a community-based social enterprise at Luník IX
  • Support execution of local sustainable development strategies
  • Introduce a credit-based payment system for energy and water in Ostrovany and Luník IX
  • Implement waste sorting systems in local institutions at Luník IX
  • Build advocacy capacity through the operational launch of the Roma Aarhus Platform

What’s New in 2025

Community-Based Social Enterprise at Luník IX
GRIP 2025 will support the establishment of a community-based social enterprise in Luník IX by the end of the year. This enterprise will provide essential services to the city ward—such as public space maintenance and environmental services—while also serving as a platform for engaging marginalized Roma residents in nature restoration activities. The initiative represents a practical, inclusive response to both social and environmental needs in the locality.

Credit-Based System for Utilities
In response to growing household debt and irregular access to basic services, GRIP 2025 will support a credit-based system for energy and water payments in both Ostrovany and Luník IX. This system promotes responsible consumption and provides municipalities and residents with a transparent, manageable framework for utility usage.

Waste Sorting in Public Institutions
As part of broader environmental improvements at Luník IX, GRIP 2025 will help implement waste sorting infrastructure within local institutions, such as schools and community centres. This step is essential to embedding sustainable practices into everyday operations and strengthening environmental awareness at the community level.

Roma Aarhus Platform
In 2025, RESDI will activate the Roma Aarhus Platform as a permanent forum for collaboration among municipalities, civil society, and Roma communities. This platform will foster dialogue on climate justice, sustainability, and inclusive policy design—ensuring that Roma perspectives are heard and represented at all levels of environmental governance.

Looking Ahead

GRIP 2025 is a continuation of RESDI’s commitment to creating a green transition that is both socially fair and community-led. By implementing locally relevant, scalable models and working hand-in-hand with municipalities and residents, we aim to create lasting change that improves quality of life while protecting the environment.
