SERIGO – Social Economy for Resilience, Inclusion and Good Life in Rural Areas

SERIGO is a Horizon Europe-funded project focusing on leveraging the social economy to enhance resilience, inclusion, and quality of life in European rural areas. The primary goal is to deliver scientific insights and practical solutions demonstrating how the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) can help rural communities address societal, demographic, economic, and environmental challenges.

The project emphasizes:

  • Participatory Research and Social Innovation: Engaging local stakeholders through community-based research to co-develop and test solutions across 13 EU countries.
  • Intersectional Perspective: Addressing vulnerabilities through critical systems thinking and inclusive approaches.
  • Policy Impact: Generating actionable insights and fostering multi-stakeholder collaborations to shape effective policy frameworks for resilient and inclusive rural development.

By integrating theoretical research with real-world applications, SERIGO aims to empower rural communities and contribute to a sustainable and inclusive European future.

Role of RESDI in SERIGO

RESDI plays a key role in the SERIGO project by working closely with Comenius University in Bratislava and the local government of Ostrovany.

  • Collaborate on Research and Implementation: RESDI, in partnership with UK and Ostrovany, conducts research to identify challenges and opportunities for social economy initiatives in rural Slovakia.
  • Design and Test Local Solutions: RESDI helps co-create pilot projects with the community in Ostrovany, focusing on improving access to services and fostering inclusion through innovative approaches.
  • Bridge Research and Practice: By combining academic expertise from Comenius University with local knowledge and needs, RESDI ensures that solutions are both evidence-based and practical for real-world application.

This close collaboration helps ensure that the project’s outcomes directly benefit the local community while contributing valuable insights for broader European policy and practice.
